Current approximate budget:
Up to £500,000 (we currently have a deposit of £230k. If this increases we can reduce our loan and increase our budget).
Mohanji's guidance is to avoid loans so any loans must be the minimum possible.
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION (for estate agents to understand what we want to do): Monastery with temple and accommodation for up to 10 permanent residents/Volunteers in shared accommodation. Plus potential for development. Must have land/facilities for small veganic farming and some rescued animals.
PROPERTY TYPE
- Smallholding/farm with large farmhouse and outbuildings.
- Main building with approximately 4 to 5 bedrooms minimum with potential for conversion (get planning consultant to advise then get outline planning consent in advance)
- A number of outbuildings which are of a standard that can be converted into accommodation or meditation space.
- Some space for camping or mobile homes desirable
- Must have services such as electricity, water, telephone lines/4g, mains sewage ideally or capacity for sewage treatment plant plus disposal, waste disposal
- MUST have outline planning consent to use as a monastery/temple worship/retreat centre/ spiritual tourism/B & B - (get planning consultant advice).
SPACE
- Minimum of 2.5 acres, preferably more.
- Easy access
- Parking facilities for at least 8 cars initially plus space/planning consent to increase (get planning consultants advice).
SURROUNDINGS
- Quiet location not susceptible to development in immediate surroundings. Away from noisy leisure pursuits.
- In the midst of nature, surrounded by nature
- Woodland on the property desirable but not compulsory
- water in the form of river or lake adjoining the property desirable but not compulsory
LOCATIONS
- South Scotland (lowlands) mainland (e.g. borders/Dumfries areas)
- North England (Yorkshire, lake district, Cumbria, Northumberland)
- Mid to North Wales area
- Midlands/Lincolnshire
- South West England
- ideally not more than one hour to 90 mins from a major city/airport
- Reasonable weather (not excessively windy or very high rainfall)
