The true leverage of labour

Convenience.

The single most devastating lever (weapon) of economic dominance.

“Hey! Why don’t you let us do that instead? Imagine all the hassle and time that would save you? Wouldn’t that be a much better quality of life? Sign up here….”

It’s like we’ve been sold a lie: that the less we work, the more advanced we become as mankind.

And similarly, hours worked has become our measure of poverty and level of ease, a measure of wealth.

But it’s not long ago that an active lifestyle was an indication of what you have – not what you don’t have.

More land, more livestock, more staff or servants required more time labouring.

But since industrialisation, the reverse has oddly become the prize.

And interestingly, this coincides with the switch to the credit economy (and the demise of the Gold Standard).

i.e. the primary measure of personal wealth being an abundant stack of promises to pay the bearer (IOUs) i.e. money VS. a stash of the underlying commodity value i.e. gold.

In other words, it’s become fashionable to desire ‘what you want’ vs ‘what you have’.

Again, this is the leverage of convenience.

AI is no different.

“Why think or why work – when robots can do that?”

It’s all the same trade-off…

“Hand over what you’ve got – and I will help you do less. And this is the way to getting more!”

A lie.

A weapon.

A war on wealth.

And just how foolish we are for falling for it EVERY time.

Until now, that is.

It’s time to value work as wealth.

It’s time to take back the true leverage of labour.
